" I felt the full benefits of the treatment and have complete trust in the care I was receiving. "
For most women pregnancy is a joyful time; from conception to birth their bodies adapt with apparent ease, whilst accommodating their child. For some this can be a time fraught with mixed emotions whilst the body reacts to the hormonal and physical changes that pregnancy imposes upon the body. Anxiety, fear, prolonged bouts of morning sickness or nausea, fatigue and discomfort are amongst a few of the things that some mothers experience.
Unlike general reflexology, maternity reflexology can be safely administered by a fully qualified Maternity Reflexologist throughout the entire pregnancy. They are trained to read pregnant feet and work in harmony with the baby; taking their cue from the baby’s positioning, womb sac fluidity and the needs of the mother.
Maternity reflexology nurtures the mother through gentle and relaxing treatments designed to help support the body whilst it acclimatises to the changes that pregnancy brings. It does not interfere with normal pregnancy, hormonal fluctuations but works primarily on maintaining a balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, which maintain homeostasis; the bodies’ necessary balance, at any given time.
Offering comfort and stress relief, maternity reflexology can help restore normal blood pressure, balance the digestive system, encourage a normal breathing pattern and stimulate the release of endorphins; the body’s own natural pain relief. It can also help prepare the body for childbirth, reduce the risk of post natal depression and help restore the post-natal body back to its pre-pregnant state without interfering with lactation.
Partners are encouraged to attend a pre-labour treatment, if they wish,to allow them to safely play an active role in assisting mother in labour.
Maternity reflexology can also play a role in your babies health should they encounter any feeding or sleeping difficulties.
Please note maternity reflexology is complementary to the care that your midwife, doctor or gynaecologist provides.
