" Brenda is a very knowledgeable and experienced practitioner who I would not hesitate in referring any of my patients to. "
Often, my clients ask me, how I got into complementary therapies and I feel it is important to be honest with them. I had always used one or two essential oils in the home but had never actually had a treatment so, when I was going through postnatal depression with my second daughter, my family bought me an aromatherapy consultation. I was amazed at the positive effect it and the skills of the aromatherapist had on me and wanted everyone else with postnatal depression to be able to feel as wonderful as I did.
So I researched places to learn and also felt strongly that I needed to learn reflexology, even though I had no idea what it was!! Within 6 months my depression had lifted and I started training at college in the evenings whilst my husband was at home with my babies and the rest as they say is history.
I do still suffer with depression but I'm now able to recognise the symptoms early on, discuss it with my family and friends. I also make sure I book in for regular reflexology to keep it under control. There are, of course days where it catches me out and I have to take time out to hibernate and recover and that's ok.
I use my personal experience with depression to aid others and can truthfully say to them, 'I know exactly how you feel but together we can bring you out the other side.' I also tell them when they say, 'I just want to get back to my old self'; why would you want to do that: that person is the one who helped you arrive at where you are now. Why not let's create a better version, a 2.0 version of yourself? They all smile in recognition of those few simple words, as if they have just had a wonderful 'lightbulb' moment and we begin the process of recovery and healing. By listening in a calm environment at exactly what it is that you need and deciding together the best course of action or treatment for you.
Through my many years of continuing training, I have found that often, a combination of therapies is what some people need. So if you don't like the thought of having your feet touched or can't stand the smell of lavender oil, there will be something that I can do for you.
